The role of ultrasound in diseases of the peripheral nervous system

Abstract

Neuromuscular ultrasonography is a new, non invasive diagnostic method in patients with diseases of the peripheral nervous system (pns). according to the published data, the combination of this method, as a morphological evaluation of pns, with the electrophysiologic studies increases the sensitivity and specifity of the diagnostic approach to the patient, especially in cases of compressive pns lesions. The purpose of this literature review is to present the basic principles of ultrasound of pns and existing sonographic studies of the most common disorders of the pns.
