Abstract

The global population is aging and the prevalence of dementia is increasing. Given the lack of efficacy of conventional drug therapy, there is a growing interest in non-pharmacological interventions of the Complementary and Alternative Medicine. The purpose of this review is to evaluate the efficacy of the Complementary and Alternative Medicine in people with dementia. The findings of most studies showed that people with Alzheimer's disease can benefit of the above interventions without side effects. However, larger prospective studies are needed to confirm these results by overcoming methodological limitations (small sample, absence of biomarkers/follow up, different protocols/measures).
