Abstract

Transcranial Sonography (TCS) is a new, non invasive diagnostic approach in patients with neurodegenerative
diseases of the central nervous system.
With further progress of ultrasound in recent years, TCS provides valuable and reliable information for
differential diagnosis of extrapyramidal diseases. However, the particular contribution of TCS in this field of
neurology lies in the early and presymptomatic diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease.
The aim of this review is to present the basic principles of TCS and the critical presentation of existing
sonographic studies in patients with extrapyramidal disorders.
